Pick a kit built around a mechanism actually still in production — not a decommissioned laptop drive, not a clone of a clone, and not something you have to gut a boombox to find.
For over a decade, a small corner of DIY audio has hand-built CD transports from scratch — pulling mechanisms and chipsets out of cheap donor hardware that were identical to those used in commercial transports costing many times more, wiring up custom boards, and mounting the result in enclosures they made themselves. That donor hardware is no longer being made, the chips are obsolete, and what's left to buy new are unbranded clone mechanisms of inconsistent quality. We're creating the kit that the hobby wants, but doesn't have.
What we endeavor to offer is the finest quality hardware available — worthy of the effort of hand-building a custom enclosure around. You'll pair it with your own power supply, and end up with a world-class transport tailored to your taste.
Early kits will go out to established DIY-audio builders to document real assembly experience — not marketing copy, actual build threads.
Future supplemental boards will add I2S output and custom playback features — like remembering where a disc left off, or automatically skipping specific tracks — for builders who want more.
